“Paintings from Kerobokan Prison – by Myuran Sukumaran” Sell out show

I had the privilege of being the exhibition and event manager for a very special art exhibit, showcasing the works of Myuran Sukumaran. With the support of Ben Quilty and Matthew Sleeth the night was a huge success, with 25 paintings hung and 25 paintings sold by the end of the 2 hour show! Myuran’s story is not the typical artists story, currently residing on death row in Kerebokon Prison for his involvement in the infamous “Bali 9″ drug smuggling scandal where 9 Australians were caught trying to smuggle heroin out of Bali. At first glance, you might ask why I would be so excited to be showing these works of a convicted criminal, but the truth is, he is not the same man that he was when he went into prison and the Art program made possible by the authorities at Kerobokan has made all the difference.
